Canice A. Coan

Canice A. Coan, PharmD, BCACP, DPLA (cacoan@nebraskamed.com), is the Pharmacy Supervisor for the Clinic Embedded Pharmacy Team at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE.  Her responsibilities are centered around the development, implementation, and maintenance of ambulatory care pharmacy services as well as the oversight of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians within the bariatrics, cardiology, endocrine, interstitial lung disease, and primary care clinics.  Additionally, she serves as the PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program Director.  Coan graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy.  She went on to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency at the William S Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI.  For the past 10 years, Coan has served on the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners Advisory Group on Clinical Practice Advancement as a member, vice chair (2023-2024), and chair (2024-2025).

Each year we as ambulatory care clinicians and leaders are faced with new challenges in the ever-changing landscape of healthcare. As healthcare evolves, I anticipate a continuous focus on the use of technology and artificial intelligence, expanded scopes of practice, reimbursement of services, and workforce development. Despite these changes, one constant remains - ASHP Section Advisory Groups are a safe space for colleagues across the country to come together to share their passion for pharmacy and advance our profession. For the past 10 years, I have had the privilege of contributing to and/or supporting members in the development of FAQ documents, roundtable discussions, podcasts, presentations, and surveys. The success of these contributions is due to the collaboration and knowledge sharing of members to educate colleagues on best practices and innovative initiatives within the ambulatory care setting. It has been inspiring to work alongside these individuals to enhance patient care, and I look forward to continuing these efforts while serving on the Executive Committee.

Being nominated for Chair of the Section is truly an honor. If elected, I would aim to provide innovative ideas to help guide the Section’s strategic plan, identify opportunities to serve as areas of focus for deliverables, foster collaboration and knowledge sharing amongst members, advocate on behalf of the Section, recruit and promote active membership involvement, and assist in the development of future Section leaders. I look forward to the opportunity to serve you and our profession by advocating for transformational change in ambulatory care.
