Hanlin Li

Hanlin Li, PharmD, MBA, BCACP (hal9016@nyp.org), is the Ambulatory Care Lead Clinical Pharmacy Manager at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. She oversees a dynamic team of clinical pharmacists, staff pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, and support specialists. Her performance history on digital and telehealth encompasses implementing multiple centralized telepharmacy services across care transitions, including tele-medication history at admission, electronic prior authorization at discharge in acute and ambulatory settings, comprehensive discharge tele-counseling, virtual ambulatory pharmacy appointments, and remote patient monitoring programs, which have enhanced outcomes and efficiency.

Li earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. John's University and a master's in business administration degree from the University of Arizona. She completed her first-year residency at the Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, followed by a second-year ambulatory care residency at the James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

Her dedication to ASHP spans from her days as a pharmacy student to her current role as an ambulatory care practitioner. She has actively contributed to various sections, including Ambulatory Care Practitioners, Pharmacy Practice Leaders, and Digital and Telehealth Practitioners. As a co-author of key resources and faculty for the Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course, she shapes the future of pharmacy and advocates for the profession's growth. She mentors students, technicians, interns, residents, and pharmacists and serves as an ASHP PGY1/PGY2 preceptor. Her state-level involvement with the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists includes advocacy and professional affairs, and she frequently presents at ASHP meetings and specialty conferences.

During my tenure, I've had the privilege of spearheading the growth of pharmacy services through the incorporation of telehealth. Over the past five years, I've expanded the team from four to sixteen employees and established the ASHP-accredited PGY-2 ambulatory care pharmacy residency program. Our achievements include a remarkable increase in ambulatory pharmacist encounters, from 887 in 2018 to 8,139 in 2024, following the transition to a hybrid model. Pharmacy and non-pharmacy extenders completed over 12,000 medication histories annually and supported over 1,000 electronic prior authorizations within three months of program launch. Additionally, remote patient monitoring programs have significantly improved outcomes for over 300 patients in general and postpartum populations.

This growth would not have been possible without embracing innovative practices. As we continue to explore incorporating technology and digital solutions into our routine processes, the most critical issue for our profession is to align ourselves with the rapidly changing landscape of artificial intelligence and proactively prepare to be at the forefront of capitalizing technology.

I am humbled to be nominated for the position of Director-at-Large on the Section of Digital and Telehealth Practitioners Executive Committee. I am eager to advance the mission and vision of the Section, and I plan to contribute to the Section's growth by collaborating with key stakeholders within and across appropriate Sections to strategize and create deliverables based on immediate, short-term, and long-term goals. Together, we can lead the digital transformation of healthcare, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve.
