Martha J. Roberts
2025 Distinguished Service Award Winner
Martha J Roberts is transitioning from her pharmacy department coordinator position to retirement.
Roberts received her initial BS Pharmacy degree from the University of Rhode Island (URI) in 1981 and later returned to URI to obtain her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1999. Most of her career was spent at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence, RI where she developed their critical care pharmacy services, progressed to the department’s pharmacy clinical coordinator role and coordinator for the pharmacy and therapeutics committee. During that time, she was a preceptor for APPE students from URI as well as the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy (MCP) from both Boston and Worcester campuses. Roberts later worked at Kent County Memorial Hospital and more recently at Brown University Health. In her current position, she is responsible for providing high-level organizational support to all the hospital-based pharmacy departments with the Brown University Health system. Roberts has continued to provide APPE opportunities to URI and MCP students and assists with the PGY-2 Critical Care Administrative rotation.
Roberts has been an active member of the Rhode Island Society of Health-System Pharmacists (RISHP), ASHP, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Within RISHP she held several board positions including president, secretary, and House of Delegate (HOD) member. As a result, she has received the RISHP Pharmacist of the Year and a special award for dedication. She has been active within ASHP and especially the Section Advisory Group (SAG) for Emerging Sciences. She started as a committee member and then became the network facilitator for 2 years before returning to the committee. This was followed by progression to SAG secretary, chair, and past-chair. One of her key activities within the SAG was coordinating several educational series on biomarkers. Roberts is also in her last year of participation in the Council on Therapeutics.
