Mixing it Up: Mastering IV Phosphate Products and Compatibility in Parenteral Nutrition
Patient Safety CE & Technician CE Offered
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are increasingly faced with complex decisions regarding phosphate supplementation, compounding safety, and product selection for neonates, pediatric patients, and adults. This program will explore the intravenous (IV) phosphate products used in parenteral nutrition, highlighting key differences in formulation, phosphate source (organic versus inorganic), safety considerations, and product presentation. Learners will examine how these differences influence clinical practice, compounding workflows, and patient outcomes. Learners will also gain a deeper understanding of the factors that drive calcium-phosphate precipitation risk and will use evidence-based strategies to enhance parenteral nutrition safety. The program will also address critical operational and clinical considerations, including product conversion, compatibility, inventory management, and patient-specific factors that impact phosphate selection and use across diverse practice settings.
