This podcast focuses on lessons learned from two PGY-1 pharmacists who have both matched to a PGY-2 program. Speakers will discuss how they decided to pursue a PGY-1, how the process differs from the PGY-1 application/interview process, and ultimately how they decided where they wanted to go. This Podcast episode will help future PGY1 residents prepare for the process of identifying and applying to PGY-2 programs.

SPEAKERS

Valerie BuckleyValerie Buckley, PharmD, is currently completing her postgraduate year 2 residency in Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, she completed her undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from Roseman University of Health Sciences, and completed a PGY1 residency at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center in Houston, TX.

Divya KhandekarDivya Khandekar, PharmD, MS, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy in Downers Grove, IL. She is a current postgraduate year 2 oncology pharmacy resident at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester. Her practice interests include hematology/oncology, infectious disease and clinical research.

Dan ArendtDan Arendt, PharmD, BCPS, is an assistant professor at The University of Cincinnati, James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy where he specializes in pain stewardship. He received his PharmD from The University of Toledo in 2018 and then completed both a PGY-1 and PGY-2 residency at University Hospitals: Geauga Medical Center, and Northeast Ohio Medical University, located near Cleveland, OH. Currently, Dr. Arendt serves as chair of the Pain Stewardship Committee at UC Health.

Chinyere OnyirimbaChinyere Onyirimba PharmD, is currently a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist with Baylor Scott & White Health where she completed her Community-Based PGY-1 Residency with Baylor Health Enterprises and PGY-2 HSPAL Residency. Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, she chose pharmacy as her career of choice at age 16 after being mentored by a pharmacy student who attended Hampton University and believes service and volunteerism are at the core of the work she wants to provide as a pharmacist.
