Facilitating Non-US Citizen Recruitment into US-Based Pharmacy Residencies

International interest in US-based pharmacy residency training has grown in recent years. With a reduced US pharmacy student pipeline, the desire for health-systems to hire international candidates into residencies is likely to increase. Many Pharmacy administrators and Resident Program Directors in the US are not familiar with visa restrictions for international trainees. This podcast will shed light on training visas and perspectives on this topic.

SPEAKERS

Norm FennNorm Fenn III, PharmD, BCPS, BCPPS, (he/him) is a clinical assistant professor at Manchester University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and a pediatric clinical pharmacist at Parkview Women's and Children's Hospital. He graduated with Honors from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences. He completed his PGY1 residency at Children’s National Medical Center and a two-year academia & ambulatory care fellowship at the Purdue University College of Pharmacy. 

James LeeJames Lee, PharmD, FCCP, AACC, BCACP, (he/him) is a clinical associate professor at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy. He also serves as the program director of the UIC/NorthShore PGY2 Clinical Pharmacogenomics Residency and as curriculum leader for professional development. Lee is involved in the teaching and training of American and international student pharmacists, visiting international pharmacist scholars, and pharmacy residents, and has also been invited to lecture internationally on numerous occasions. 

Doug SlainDoug Slain, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP, (he/him) is a professor and infectious diseases clinical specialist at West Virginia University. His clinical practice sites include the Infectious Disease Consult Service and the Infectious Diseases Clinic. For more than 18 years, Doug has shared his infectious diseases expertise through direct patient care, teaching and research. With more than 33 peer-reviewed publications, numerous domestic and international presentations and research in the field of anti-infectives, Doug has established himself as a subject matter expert in the field of infectious diseases and antimicrobial stewardship.
