In celebration of Pride Month in June, we are sharing the voices of our AJHP authors and their perspectives and experiences. In this episode, Carolanne C. Wartman and Carol A. Ott explore the mental health disparities faced by SGMs individuals and discuss strategies to promote better mental health outcomes for this population.
Carolanne Wartman, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP (she/her) graduated from Purdue University in 2020. She completed a PGY-1 at the University of Michigan and a PGY-2 psychiatric residency at Eskenazi Health/Purdue University. She has provided outpatient services for two clinics dedicated to gender health and has published research on the role of a psychiatric pharmacist in this space. She continues to advocate for this population by serving on the American Academy of Psychiatric Pharmacists DEI Committee and DEI Community Co-Leader.
Carol Ott, PharmD, MPH, BCPP (she/her/hers) is a clinical professor of pharmacy practice in the Purdue University College of Pharmacy and a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in psychiatry and gender health in the Gender Health Program at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis, Indiana. She serves on the expert panels for the LGBTQ+ and Trans Health ECHOs for the Indiana University – Indianapolis ECHO program. Dr. Ott is a member of the Board of Health in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.
Daniel J. Cobaugh, Pharm.D. FAACT, DABAT is the senior vice president of professional development and publishing at ASHP and the editor-in-chief of AJHP. He has served on the ASHP staff since 2002. He received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh and his Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University. Cobaugh completed an ASHP-accredited residency in hospital pharmacy at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and a clinical toxicology fellowship at the Pittsburgh Poison Center. He practiced as pharmacist-clinical toxicologist and held faculty appointments at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the University of Rochester Medical Center.
