C. Whitney White, PharmD, BCPS, FALSHP, FASHP (cwwall@samford.edu), is an associate professor of pharmacy practice at Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy. She is also a clinical pharmacist practitioner within the Birmingham VA Health Care System. She earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Mississippi College and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at Huntsville Hospital. Her career has included practice in both acute and ambulatory care settings, where she has helped to expand the footprint of pharmacy practice by implementing pharmacist-led gout and osteoporosis clinics as well as establishing new rounding services and innovative practice models which involve pharmacy learners.
White has been an active member of ASHP since completing residency and has served in many leadership roles. She is a past chair of the Council on Education and Workforce Development and past chair of the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP) Educational Steering Committee (ESC). She has been a member of the SICP ESC for many years, helping to create various educational tools and resources for ASHP members. She has also served as a delegate from Alabama to the ASHP House of Delegates for many years and is passionate about advocacy for the pharmacy profession.
ASHP has been an exemplar to other organizations for decades with its unwavering commitment to pharmacy practice advancement, professional advocacy, and member engagement and development. At the heart of its mission and vision is patient care and ensuring its members are well-equipped to serve patients with excellence. One of my favorite parts of being an ASHP member has been the opportunity to share ideas, foster innovation, and collaborate with colleagues to move the profession forward. When we work together, fully utilizing our individual talents and abilities, we see real change happen!
My involvement and leadership with the SICP ESC has given me tremendous insight into the needs of the Section and the membership as a whole. The Section has continuously produced high-quality education and resources and routinely models practice innovation and provision of optimal patient care. We face unprecedented obstacles with pharmacy workforce demands, an ever-changing healthcare landscape which requires agility to integrate newer technological advancements into clinical decision-making, and the need to further expand practice models that fully leverage the knowledge and skills of pharmacists while also creating advanced roles for technicians. I know that the members of our Section stand ready to meet these challenges by sharing best practices from their institutions, forging new paths and partnerships which advance patient care, and continuing to advocate for our profession. It is truly an honor to be nominated, and I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners as Director-at-Large!
