Allison (Allie) E. Fay, PharmD, BCACP, BC-ADM, CPP (afay@thefhc.net), is the director of ambulatory pharmacy services at The Family Health Centers in Asheville, NC. Fay received her PharmD from Ohio Northern University, then completed her PGY1 pharmacy practice residency with CCNC/UNC and PGY2 ambulatory care pharmacy residency with MAHEC/UNC. During PGY2 residency, Fay established clinical pharmacy services at her practice and has been in her current role since 2018, expanding the pharmacy team to include another clinical pharmacist and two technicians.
In her role, Fay provides team-based chronic disease management and assists with Medicare annual wellness visits, high-risk transitions of care, and medication access. She oversees the pharmacy technicians, prior authorization and medication refill departments, and medication focused quality metrics. Fay also precepts fourth-year pharmacy students and UNC Rural Health Scholars.
Fay currently serves as chair for the SACP Advisory Group (SAG) on Compensation and Practice Sustainability and has been a member since 2019, previously serving as vice chair. She’s also served on the SAG for Clinical Practice Advancement and the New Practitioners Forum - Membership and Outreach Advisory Group. During her SAG involvement, she contributed to several ASHP resource documents and podcasts and served as faculty for the ASHP Billing and Reimbursement for Patient Care Clinical Services and the Quality Improvement for Pharmacy Professionals certificates. She presents a variety of ambulatory care topics locally, regionally, and nationally. She’s also served as director-at-large for the NC Association of Pharmacists Ambulatory Care Academy. In 2022, she was recognized as North Carolina’s Distinguished Young Pharmacist.
The need for ambulatory care pharmacists continues to grow, and our profession is increasingly recognized as essential to improving outcomes, enhancing access, and reducing costs. My vision looks beyond that horizon – embracing emerging roles for pharmacists in specialty areas and rural practices, leveraging technology in practice, expanding the role of technicians in ambulatory care, increasing pharmacist visibility, and advocating for pay parity of pharmacist-led services. Pharmacists are the medication experts – and in a time of increasing physician shortages and the continued shift towards value-based care, our role in filling care gaps has never been more important.
I’ve practiced in the ambulatory care space for nearly ten years, and through establishing sustainable pharmacy services at my practice, have developed a passion for helping others build scalable, high-impact ambulatory care models, and fostering practice advancement both locally and nationally. I strive to be a problem solver and advocate for accessible, high-quality care for all, and value teamwork, adaptability, innovation, and a strong work ethic. This is echoed by my contributions to SACP, and as director-at-large will aid in offering meaningful resources to members to provide high-quality, pharmacist-led services even in the smallest practices.
As director-at-large, I am committed to representing the diverse voices of our members, championing innovation, and supporting the development of sustainable services. I am honored to be nominated, and if elected, will bring my experience, passion, and dedication to support our members and lead the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners into its next chapter.
