The section of pharmacy informatics and technology vision is “to ensure that medication use processes are optimal, safe, and effective for all people all the time”. This sentiment is particularly pertinent as we continue to explore the complex realm of expanded digital health. The profession of pharmacy and adjacent professions will continue to count on this section to provide a collective voice of guidelines, statements, and best practices to support new technology use in pharmacy practice, especially with the advances in artificial intelligence. As advances to technology outpace regulation, we must use innovative strategies to shape the market, educate, and quickly provide thorough recommendations to protect patient care.
I'm honored to be slated for chair of ASHP SOPIT this election cycle. My previous roles within the CDSA section advisory group have been rewarding, contributing to member engagement through podcasts, webinars, guidelines, and presentations. If elected, I aim to enhance these efforts with my unique insights from working as both a health system pharmacist and in the medical technology industry. I will continue ASHP's collaborative approach with non-traditional organizations, promoting technology standards and guidelines, advocating for policy improvements, and advancing education and training in healthcare technology.
One of my primary goals within the pharmacy profession is to enhance data analytics to improve AI, automation, and technology interoperability and applicability. Our section has the expertise and drive to innovate, and I will create more opportunities for member participation and alignment. I'm beyond excited for SOPIT's future!
