Zahra C. Nasrazadani, PharmD, BCEMP, BCPS, DPLA (zahra.nasr-azadani@uhkc.org), is the Pharmacy Clinical Manager at University Health Truman Medical Center, where she also supports the organization's residency programs as Residency Co-Coordinator and preceptor. She earned her PharmD at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 acute care residency in rural Kansas, where she went on to practice as an emergency medicine specialist for seven years, including achieving board certification in this specialty. She completed the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy in 2022.
Zahra's ASHP service includes a three-year term on the Council on Therapeutics, ongoing membership on the ASHP Emergency Medicine Section Advisory Group, a two-year term as the Director of Government Affairs for the ASHP Kansas state affiliate, and representing the state of Kansas in the ASHP House of Delegates. She has delivered numerous podium presentations at the state level and presented original content at the ASHP National Pharmacy Preceptors Conference related to her novel longitudinal diversity, equity, and inclusion resident rotation, for which she was also awarded Innovative Practice of the Year by the ASHP Kansas affiliate in 2024. Her work in this space was published in AJHP and recognized in ASHP's Diversity Resource Guide as a key resource for supporting residency recruitment. Zahra has served as a poster abstract reviewer, peer reviewer for AJHP, and liaison for emergency medical services.
More than ever, the line between clinical practice and “everything else” is blurring. To continue the essential work of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists and push our practice ever-forward, clinical leadership, too, must be redefined. Innovation at its finest is often disruptive to the conventional wisdom and it is my goal to support the Section as it undertakes this difficult and gratifying work.
Drawing from my clinical background, I know that emergency medicine is sometimes also wilderness medicine - the kind of medicine that calls upon us to simply do what it takes to care for any patient in need. It requires creativity, tenacity, and unflinching empathy. Pharmacists at the vanguard of bedside clinical care are clamoring for a practice model that acknowledges our contemporary struggles while advocating for the well-being of patient and practitioner alike. I aim to contribute my voice from within the Section to innovate clinical practice for all patients and elevate the already-exceptional care pharmacists provide, striving for a future underpinned by pharmacoequity. My time engaged in policy-making within the Council on Therapeutics, the emergency medicine SAG, and the House of Delegates fuels my dedication to our profession and I am honored to be considered for the role of Director-at-Large of the Section to continue this work.
