Meet Jay C. Christenson
I believe the strength and impact of the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology depends on both deeply engaging current members and intentionally expanding membership. The Section’s mission to provide a collective voice on best practices in health information technology for medication use processes is realized through an active, connected, and growing community of pharmacy professionals. Engaging current members must be a primary focus. Members should experience consistent, tangible value through relevant education, practical tools, and meaningful opportunities to contribute. This includes clear pathways for involvement in Section initiatives, leadership development, and collaboration across practice settings. When members are actively engaged, they not only advance their own professional growth but also strengthen the collective expertise that drives innovation and improves medication use systems. Sustained progress also requires intentional membership growth. Attracting students, residents, and early-career professionals into SOPIT is essential to advancing pharmacy informatics as a specialty. This requires clearly communicating the value of membership, delivering targeted and accessible programming, and creating structured entry points for mentorship, participation, and career development. Thank you for the nomination and the opportunity to be considered for this role. I am committed to building on SOPIT’s strong foundation by advancing member engagement, expanding access to high-impact education, and creating clear pathways for involvement and leadership. If elected, I will focus on strengthening member value and growing a connected, future-ready community prepared to lead informatics practice.
