Reasons for selecting this career path

I started pharmacy school with wanting to pursue residency training. During pharmacy school, I completed an internship in an academic medical center that ignited my passion for health-system pharmacy practice. Through my internship, leadership experiences, and advice from mentors, I began to recognize that my interests aligned with pharmacy administration and leadership. These interests led me to completing the Health-System Pharmacy Administration (HSPA) Residency Program at the University of North Carolina Medical Center (UNCMC). Residency training offered a solid clinical foundation, honed my leadership skills, and equipped me with toolkit needed for pharmacy practice management. The ability to mentor and develop others, optimize care delivery systems, and advance practice, fuels my desire to practice in pharmacy administration and provide patient-centered care.

Interest in the NPF Executive Committee

I have previously served on the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum and ASHP New Practitioners Forum Advisory Groups as both member and Chair. Additionally, I recently finished a term as Vice Chair of the New Practitioners Forum (NPF) Executive Committee. The teams that I have been fortunate to be a part of and the projects that we have completed motivate me to become further involved. The ASHP NPF has a unique role in developing new practitioners of all backgrounds. I am excited to be involved at the Executive Committee again this year to work with ASHP new practitioners to see and provide direction on all of the incredible work that will be completed by the Advisory Groups this coming year.

Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner

The ASHP NPF is a great resource for New Practitioners. The Forum is a home for those looking for get involved on the national level following the completion of pharmacy school. The NPF Advisory Groups can be an opportunity to get further involved, or a resource as they complete many impactful and meaningful projects for the NPF. The NPF is a venue for New Practitioners across the nation to come together and share experiences, learn from each other, and network to connect pharmacists across the nation.

Fun Fact

If I were to pick a career unrelated to healthcare, I would have become an architect.
