Reasons for selecting this career path:
I wanted to be a pharmacist since I was sixteen years old because of the ability to be specialized in medicine and retain the ability to effect patient outcomes. I selected family medicine because of the potential to directly impact and individualize patient care. I am blessed with a position where our providers are highly collaborative and value the insight of pharmacy. My patients appreciate the additional care, support, and education that Pharmacy provides, and I continue to be challenged daily and grow as a provider because of the complexity of the cases and the diversity of the patients we see. I was drawn to academia because of the mentors and educators who inspired me, and I love the ability to work with the next generation, foster their interests and passions, and foster their engagement within the profession. My learners – residents and students – make me a better practitioner.
Professional Interests:
- Geriatric Patient Care Including Polypharmacy and Deprescribing processes
- Uncontrolled Diabetes and Factors Impacting Care
- Dementia
- COPD/ Asthma Management
- Innovative Teaching Methods
Interest in the NPF Executive Committee:
After serving on the New Practitioners Forum as an Advisory Group member, Work Group lead, and Advisory Group Chair, I have been motivated by the deliverables and content created by this community. I wanted to join the Executive Committee to help further guide and impact the direction of the ASHP New Practitioners Forum.
Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner:
The ASHP NPF is an awesome community to meet practitioners nationwide. As a resident, I joined and immediately was connected with individuals in similar situations and interests. I loved the ability to discuss, share ideas, and help to expand my network for practice changes and advancement. The ASHP NPF affords practitioners the ability to work on the national level to help further develop the profession.
Fun Fact:
My fiancée and I had our first four-pawed child this past year – a Goldendoodle who we adore named Zoey!
