Reasons for selecting this career path
I have always had a passion for leadership and developing others. During my internship and pharmacy school training, I witnessed the endless possibilities available within our profession. Additionally, I spent an APPE rotation at ASHP in September 2014 and was able to connect with pharmacy leaders across the country during ASHP Policy Week. These experiences combined created a realization that formal leadership in my career was a possibility. This led me to pursue a PGY1/2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center and ultimately start my career within the organization. My first role after residency included oversight of freestanding emergency departments at OhioHealth. Both my first role and recent promotion are a perfect combination of my professional interests while simultaneously working within a family environment.

Interest in the NPF Executive Committee
As a member and work group lead of the Career Development Advisory Group (CDAG), I had the ability to play an integral role in creating solutions to the unmet needs of our membership. As the CDAG chair, I discovered that while I thrive off of idea generation and project creation, providing guidance, support and project facilitation to the front line members became my new pastime. I have been fortunate to serve as a Member and Vice Chair on the Executive Committee and able to celebrate successes of the Forum and New Practitioners across the country. Being a part of the New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee is an opportunity to motivate new practitioners on a broad scale through strategy and intentional leadership.
Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner
The best part about the New Practitioners Forum is networking with pharmacists who are in the same place in their career and life that you can relate to. As an advisory group member, you have the ability to take a statement of need and determine how to meet it. While you practice pharmacy every day, being involved in the New Practitioners Forum allows you to make a difference on the national level.
Fun Fact
ASHP has been integral in my personal & professional life. As an example, I got engaged at Disneyland during ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting 2014 to my now husband.
