Reasons for selecting this career path:
I initially became interested in clinical pharmacy during my time at Jefferson College of Pharmacy. I was inspired by my preceptors in the inpatient setting who demonstrated the vital role that pharmacists can have within the healthcare team. In order to further my clinical foundation in patient care, I was motivated to complete a PGY1 and PGY2 residency. During my time as a resident, I have developed a broad clinical interest. I have seen the value of looking at the whole patient and the importance of pharmacy in transitions of care while working as an internal medicine specialist.
Professional Interests:
- Transitions of Care
- Anticoagulation
- Cirrhosis
- Cardiology
- Antimicrobial Stewardship
Interest in the NPF Executive Committee:
My time on the ASHP New Practitioners Forum Resident Advancement Advisory Group, beginning as a member and then serving as a workgroup lead, has been a positive experience. The ability to identify areas of need relevant to residents and new practitioners across the country has been rewarding. This experience encourgaed me to pursue the Executive Committee to further contribute to the experience of pharmacy practice and work with all the advisory groups to support advancement of our profession.
Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner:
ASHP has many benefits for all pharmacists, especially new practitioners. The New Practitioners Form is an excellent platform to connect with pharmacists across the country. Specifically, NPF identities topics and areas of interest for pharmacists in residency and just starting off in their career. It creates opportunities to collaborate and contribute to pharmacy practice as a new practitioner. Being able to move the pharmacy profession forward and to provide care for patients are both very motivating!
Fun Fact: I am not a big fan of cold weather but spent my undergraduate time at Colby College in Waterville, Maine where the winters are known to be a bit chilly, and I absolutely loved my time there!
