Reasons for selecting pharmacy:
My first exposure to pharmacy was during a shadow with a pharmacist in a local hospital. There was one moment I specifically remember that sparked my interest; I was sitting with the pharmacist at a workstation and as he was explaining something to me, a physician came over and asked him for his opinion and recommendation for a patient they had been taking care of. I was blown away that the pharmacist was being held in this regard – I thought they just verified orders and dispensed them from the hospital basement! That’s how I learned about clinical pharmacy practice and how pharmacists truly are the drug experts on the healthcare team. Ever since then, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in pharmacy. I love being able to contribute to patient care by having an extensive knowledge base and pattern of thinking unique to pharmacists.

Interest in the PSF Executive Committee:
I first got involved in ASHP by joining my school’s SSHP chapter during my first year of pharmacy school, as I had just started my internship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and knew I wanted to pursue a career in an institutional setting. After that, I served on the PSF Career and Leadership Development Advisory Group, where I was able to dive deeper into using, sharing, and creating ASHP resources available to students. This was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the Pharmacy Student Forum and its role in the ASHP mission. After reflecting on my experience with ASHP, I felt called to apply to the Executive Committee with the intention of creating the same positive experience for others. It is an absolute honor and privilege to have been appointed to this position, and I am excited to support our network of student pharmacists!
How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development:
My ASHP membership has by far been the single most important contributing factor to my professional development in pharmacy school. I’ve gotten critical pearls and tips from interacting with the network of people I’ve met through the Guided Mentorship Program and the Pharmacy Student Forum. I also found ASHP’s Road to Residency a helpful set of tools to support my goal of pursuing residency training. The vast number of resources available to students through ASHP are truly second to none, and one of my goals this year is to ensure that students are aware of them and able to easily use them for their professional development.
Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member:
- Communicate with and contribute to the PSF Advisory Group for which I will be serving as an EC liaison
- Spread awareness of ASHP resources to student pharmacists across the country by connecting with SSHP chapters and fellow student leaders
- Encourage student pharmacists to get involved in ASHP at the local, state, and national levels
Fun Fact:
When I am not studying or working, you can usually find me lifting at the gym, rewatching Star Wars shows and movies for the bazillionth time (yes, that is definitely a real number), or adding to my collection of American traditional tattoos!
