Elizabeth Hearn

Elizabeth Hearn is Assistant Professor of Ambulatory Care at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas. After receiving her PharmD from the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, Elizabeth also completed a PGY1 Community Residency and PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency at the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. Elizabeth served on the 2022-2023 NPF Personal Development Advisory Group. 

Professional Interests
Working with pharmacy students is one of my passions, and I enjoy seeing students both in the classroom and on experiential rotations. I'm very interested in diabetes care, specifically for underserved or underinsured patients. Improving medication access and affordability is very important, and pharmacists can be huge advocates for this change.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?
I joined ASHP because of their incredible residency resources. When I was thinking of applying for residency, I knew that joining ASHP would allow me to connect with high-caliber programs that would help me on my journey towards becoming an ambulatory care pharmacist.

What would you tell others if asked how to get involved with ASHP?
ASHP is very easy to find on all social media platforms and online. I recommend joining a member section and signing up for email updates. You'll often find opportunities to plug in emailed directly to you.

What unique characteristics and perspectives do you bring to your everyday work or the pharmacy profession?
Generosity is very important to me! I try to be generous with my time, energy, brainpower, thanks, and praise, which I believe creates strong bonds with coworkers and patients!

What do you like to do for fun? What are some of your interests/hobbies outside of pharmacy?
Outside of work, my friends often play pickle ball together! I also enjoy playing tennis with my husband, listening to audiobooks, and watching reality TV shows.

What advice would you give to other new practitioners?
Don't be too hard on yourself! You may have days of doubt, and you will make mistakes from time to time. Remember that you are well-educated and prepared to face anything that comes your way.
