Professional Interests
Ambulatory care topics, especially cardiovascular disease risk reduction including management of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and smoking cessation. I am most passionate about care for underserved patient populations. These patients have additional factors that affect their care, and it is rewarding to help them navigate through these barriers. I love celebrating their health victories as we work together to help them live their story!
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
My involvement with ASHP began as a student pharmacist due to my interest in residency and has continued as a practicing pharmacist due to the commitment of the organization to advance practice and ensure safe medication use in various health systems.
What would you tell others if asked how to get involved with ASHP?
It seems simple, but read the emails that ASHP sends out. They are filled with opportunities to get involved and expand clinical and professional knowledge.
What unique characteristic/perspective do you bring to your everyday work or the pharmacy profession?
As a pharmacist who practices within a rural FQHC, I bring the perspective of evaluating multiple social determinants of health that may affect a patient's medication regimen before making recommendations to the interdisciplinary team.
What do you like to do for fun? What are some of your interests/hobbies outside of pharmacy?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Whether traveling, shopping, fishing, or hiking, I simply enjoy spending time with the people I love. A fun fact about me is that I have Irish twins that are 7 months old and 19 months old. They bring so much joy to my life!
What advice would you give to other new practitioners?
Be intentional about your involvement within the profession. Consider your long-term goals for your career and find mentors and opportunities that will help you to achieve those goals.
