Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I originally became involved in ASHP through my involvement with SSHP while in pharmacy school. I appreciated the resources that ASHP provided for pharmacy students such as the CV review program and student-directed programming at the Midyear Clinical Meeting. I also enjoyed competing in the clinical skills competition as a student, placing in the top 10 during my fourth year. As a new practitioner, I am thankful for all of the career transition resources that ASHP provides. I am excited to be a part of the career and leadership development group to help develop new resources for students, residents, and fellow new practitioners as they navigate these stages of their careers.

What would you tell others if asked how to get involved with ASHP?

Find a mentor who has been involved in ASHP and ask them about how they have gotten involved! One of my preceptors from residency serves as a member of the SICP SAG on Medication Safety, and hearing about his process to become involved with that group inspired me to apply to be a member of an advisory group for the NPF. And don't be afraid to take a leap of faith and try something new!

What unique characteristic/perspective do you bring to your everyday work or the pharmacy profession?

While I was in pharmacy school, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and was frequently in and out of the hospital. He ultimately passed away during my 4th year while I was on APPEs. My motto each day as a pharmacist is to take quality, compassionate, and detail-oriented care of my patients like I would want someone to take care of my grandparents.

What do you like to do for fun? What are some of your interests/hobbies outside of pharmacy?

I really enjoy reading (particularly autobiographies/memoirs) and baking (pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and banana chocolate chip muffins are my specialty). I also love to travel. In college, I minored in Spanish, and I got to take my dream trip to Spain for my birthday last fall after I finished residency!
