Amber Jerauld
Amber graduated from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2005. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Denver Veterans Affairs Hospital from 2005-2006 and a PGY2 Primary Care Residency at Kaiser Permanente CO from 2006-2007. She then went on to work for Kaiser Permanente in CO as an Ambulatory Care pharmacist from 2007-2010. She then moved to Lancaster PA and worked for Lancaster General Health as an ambulatory care pharmacist from 2010-2016 and in 2020 transitioned to United Health Services (UHS) in Johnson City NY. She received BCPS certification in 2007 and BCACP certification in 2015.
Amber is an Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacist at UHS Vestal Primary Care and UHS Heart and Vascular Institute in Vestal and Johnson City NY. Amber is also the Residency Program Coordinator for the PGY1 Residency at UHS and serves as an APPE preceptor for Binghamton University School of Pharmacy. Her current practice responsibilities include anticoagulation management, chronic disease state management using collaborative practice agreements and heart failure management.
Describe the facility where you work:
United Health Services is a health care system in the southern tier region of New York. Amber works at two different outpatient practices, focusing on anticoagulation management, heart failure, and chronic management.
Recent Significant Projects:
Amber is currently involved with one of the PGY1 resident's research projects examining the impact of an ambulatory care pharmacist on outpatient management of heart failure medications. She also was the primary preceptor for one of the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy's APPE Capstone projects looking at the evaluation of a best practice alert in the EHR and provider education on prescribing patterns of potentially inappropriate medications in the elderly.
Initial Involvement in ASHP:
Amber has been a member of ASHP but recently joined the ASHP Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners Advisory Group on Medication Management Services.
Why did you become involved in ASHP?
Amber would like to gain further leadership opportunities and learn from other practitioners to help expand ambulatory services at UHS.
Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area:
It is important to stay up to date on current literature and guidelines and establish relationships with the providers in your office/setting. Once you have a provider that is on board with what an ambulatory care pharmacist can do, it will spread throughout the organization.
How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
ASHP is full of resources for new and established practitioners as well as providing great opportunities for networking and continuing education programs.
What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP continues to lead the way in clinical pharmacy service both inpatient and in the ambulatory setting and assists with moving our profession forward in a very complicated health care landscape.
