Tanya Kaenkumchorn
Onchuma (Tanya) Kaenkumchorn earned her PharmD degree and masters degree in public administration from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed a postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) residency and postgraduate year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy informatics residency at Northshore University Healthsystem. She is currently a pharmacy informatics coordinator at Advocate Health, specializing in ambulatory care and retail pharmacy workflows. She is actively involved in the PGY2 pharmacy informatics residency program and co-precepts the outpatient pharmacy rotation.
Current Responsibilities:
At Advocate Health, Kaenkumchorn supports outpatient pharmacy workflows in the retail and ambulatory care setting. She works closely with operations to optimize workflow efficiencies and reporting.
Facility:
Advocate Health is a 67-hospital system with inpatient, ambulatory, and retail pharmacy practice areas.
Recent Significant Projects:
I have been closely involved in implementing and maintaining outpatient verification queues as well as supporting chronic disease management ambulatory workflows. I also actively support retail pharmacy projects and initiatives, which are inclusive of retail, mail order, and specialty pharmacy.
Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
Continue to foster an insatiable thirst for knowledge. The pharmacy informatics field is ever evolving with new tools and opportunities to grow as a practitioner and give back to the profession.
Involvement with ASHP:
I am a current member of the Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology Section Advisory Group on Clinical Decision Support. The group is developing a webinar focused on artificial intelligence governance.
Reason for ASHP Involvement:
ASHP provides numerous networking opportunities, as well as the chance to contribute to the profession.
Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues:
The ability to learn from pharmacists at other organizations, coupled with the resources available for continuous education, is essential for all practitioners.
Value of ASHP for the Profession:
Not only does ASHP provide ample networking opportunities, but ASHP also provides practitioners with various professional development opportunities. ASHP’s advocacy for the advancement of our profession is immeasurable and very much appreciated.
