Impact of your event:
We organized a weeklong event featuring guest speakers, presentations, and activities as part of PAI Week, working in collaboration with various organizations at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy (UCSOP). We planned our event before UCSOP announced it would close at the end of the 2025 spring semester. However, the UCSOP SSHP chapter was quick to inspire resilience and excitement in returning staff and students. On Monday, we featured UCSOPs Rho Chi and provided interactive patient case presentations and guidelines for treatment. On Tuesday, APhAs chapter president Courtney Brewer and Chloe Anderson, a 2024 ASHP summer intern, shared their invaluable insights on the Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition.. Wednesday, SSHP was joined by SNAPhA and we all participated in a culturally sensitive discussion about topics including interacting with patients and optimizing care in diverse settings. On Thursday, SSHP President Abigail Ratliff presented on the topics of CV formatting and AI-friendly reporting of student pharmacy experience to best fit future applications. Friday, Darius Berry, a 2023 alumnus of UCSOP, spoke with the students and faculty about his career at the United States Public Health Service. The week granted students the opportunity to complete an advocacy badge activity, which is a staple at UCSOP. This event grew beyond our greatest beliefs as we had the chance to bring the students, faculty, and staff together within the first weeks of the spring semester to offer a positive, inclusive, and productive environment.
Promotion for the event:
SSHP utilized PAI 2030 resources as well as guidance from Chloe Anderson, a 2024 summer intern at ASHP.
- Social media posts: SSHP Instagram story.
- School wide emails: Leading up to the event, our secretary Miranda Birchfield maintained a consistent stream of email communication with students and faculty.
- Flyers, like the one added on the left, were spread all around the pharmacy school building.
Advice you would give to SSHPs attempting to replicate the project you described:
Have fun! This is to advance our practice in pharmacy, and there is no better time than now! Reach out to friends, be creative, the sky is the limit!
