Current ASHP Involvement: Practice Advancement and Advocacy (PAAAG)
Reason for ASHP involvement: In school ASHP was a great pathway to develop my clinical and professional knowledge as well as network with other student pharmacists across the country.
Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues: In my first year of residency, access to resources, forums, and teaching certificates expanded my clinical abilities. This has paid dividends well into my second year of residency.
Professional Interests and Passions: As an ambulatory care resident, I am most passionate about patient access and reaching the community where we can have a large impact. This year, my resident service is focusing on starting a pharmacist-led GDMT clinic in primary care for our heart failure population in Charlotte. Often, these medications are unaffordable, and patients are on suboptimal regimens. It is super rewarding to connect patients to these resources.
Advice for other New Practitioners: I think early in your career, it is important to establish a good source of information to stay up to date with all the happenings in the world. Healthcare changes quickly, and in order to be at the leading edge, we will need to be able to adapt.
Unique Characteristics or Perspectives: Originally from Pennsylvania, I think I bring an outside perspective to my workflow here in Charlotte. I’m very curious, and I like to challenge others around me to look at things through a different lens.
Other Interests or Hobbies: Last year, I picked up running full-time and just completed my first half marathon in March! I also love to cook and bake. On the weekends, I like used bookstores and playing tennis.
