Current ASHP Involvement: Clinical Practice Advisory Group (CPAG)

Reason for ASHP involvement:
I enjoyed being involved in our SSHP at Purdue and was interested in practice advancement on a national level, so I signed up and was selected for the summer internship as a P1. Afterwards, I continued in service as the Vice Chair and then the Chair of the Pharmacy Student Forum, and am now in my third year of service in the New Practitioners Forum, now as Chair of the Clinical Practice Advisory Group.

Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues:
ASHP provides an excellent professional home base and allows you to grow your network through collaboration with other pharmacists across the nation, learning from their insights into pharmacy practice. Through these conversations and collaborations on ASHP initiatives, we can effect large-scale change and further highlight the value of our pharmacy profession.

Professional Interests and Passions:
It is difficult to pick just one area I'm passionate about, given my training in internal medicine! My professional interests include cardiology, infectious diseases, hepatology, nephrology, anticoagulation, and professional development. I've enjoyed diving into a variety of disease states since pharmacy school, and it’s exciting to bring forward applications of literature through internal medicine clinical practice, research, and quality improvement. I am passionate about education and love teaching learners on rotation and in the classroom and seeing them develop throughout their career!

Advice for other New Practitioners:
Continue exploring your practices interests and finding your niches and contributing that passion to better your health system and patient outcomes. Also continue local and national involvement in professional organizations such as ASHP! There is so much wide-scale change we can effect with our work. Finally, continue meeting regularly with mentors that inspire you. It’s always so meaningful hearing their wisdom and very rewarding not only for you but also for them to watch you grow!

Unique Characteristics or Perspectives:
I bring a passion for education and well-roundedness as an internal medicine clinical pharmacist. I love rounding with our teams at our medical center, seeing new disease states each day, and collaborating with our colleagues to optimize patient therapy through direct patient care and quality improvement opportunities. I am passionate about transitions of care and take care that patients feel heard, well cared for, and are able to receive the medications they need during their inpatient stay and at discharge. I also channel my passion for medicine and education as a co-funded faculty member, staying up-to-date on best practices and literature and passing that knowledge on to learners on rotation and in the classroom.

Other Interests or Hobbies:
I love singing and playing instruments; I’ve been classically trained in voice and piano since I was two! I also love running and training for races, having run multiple 5ks and half-marathons, and one full marathon! I also enjoy traveling and seeing new places, going to concerts, and spending time with loved ones!
