I became an ASHP member during the fall semester of my P1 year in 2023. I initially joined to take advantage of the benefits offered through the complimentary student membership. Through ASHP, I was introduced to the wide range of career opportunities available within health-system pharmacy, expanding my perspective beyond the traditional hospital and community pharmacy roles I was familiar with at the time.

Current Involvement: I currently serve as Vice Chair of the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum's Advancement of Pharmacy Practice Advisory Group. In this role, I help support initiatives focused on advancing pharmacy practice, student engagement, advocacy, PAI 2030, and well-being and resilience. I have also participated in the ASHP Guided Mentorship Program, which allowed me to connect with a pharmacist mentor and gain valuable guidance as I continue exploring my professional interests, particularly in emergency medicine and health-system pharmacy. Additionally, I participated in the ASHP CV Review Program, where I received constructive feedback to further strengthen how I present my academic, leadership, and professional experiences.

Favorite Part of ASHP Student Membership: My favorite part of being an ASHP student member is the opportunity to connect with pharmacy students and professionals from across the country while continuing to grow both personally and professionally. Through networking events, mentorship opportunities, and national leadership involvement, ASHP has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and explore opportunities I may not have otherwise considered. I especially appreciate being part of an organization that empowers student pharmacists to have a voice in shaping the future of our profession.

Favorite ASHP Memory: One of my favorite ASHP memories was recently participating in a Pharmacy Student Forum networking event held virtually over Zoom. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to meet and connect with pharmacy students from across the country. It was exciting to hear about their experiences, interests, and goals while building relationships with students I may not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. One of the most beneficial aspects of being an ASHP student member has been the opportunity to build connections beyond my own school and home state. ASHP has allowed me to develop a broader professional network while learning from students and pharmacists with diverse experiences and career interests. Through these connections and the various opportunities ASHP provides, I have also gained greater exposure to the many ways pharmacists can contribute to patient care, leadership, research, and the advancement of the profession. Being a student member has helped broaden my perspective on what my own career in pharmacy could look like.

Advice for Other Student Pharmacists: My biggest advice to pharmacy students looking to become involved in national organizations like ASHP is to simply jump into it! Do not be afraid to put yourself out there, step outside of your comfort zone, or try something new. There are so many opportunities available, whether that means attending a networking event, applying for a leadership position, joining a mentorship program, or simply introducing yourself to someone new. The benefits of getting involved are endless. You can build meaningful connections with students and pharmacists across the country, gain exposure to different areas of pharmacy practice, develop professionally, and discover opportunities you may not have known existed. I have learned that you do not have to wait until you feel completely prepared or qualified to get involved. Sometimes, you just have to take that first step and see where it leads you. You never know what opportunities, relationships, or experiences may be waiting for you through ASHP!
