I am currently the Chair of the Advancement of Professional Practice Advisory Group within the Pharmacy Student Forum.
Favorite Part of ASHP Student Membership: If I had to choose my favorite part about being a student member of ASHP, it would be the opportunity to network with students across the country and develop materials for other pharmacy students and SSHPs! One of the most beneficial aspects is the variety of resources available to me. As a P4 who is interested in residency, I have been utilizing the Residency Resource Center more and more as of late and am planning on submitting my CV for review by other pharmacists. Regardless of what year you are in school, there are toolkits and guides that will support your journey towards becoming a pharmacist!
Favorite ASHP Memory: My favorite project I've done with ASHP was a podcast on student wellbeing. My workgroup interviewed a champion for student wellness and asked them about what wellness truly means, how to incorporate wellness activities and mindsets into a busy student schedule, and how they prioritize wellness into their own life as a pharmacist. It was so impactful for me to not only interview them but also listen to their words of wisdom for the next generation of pharmacists.
Advice for Other Student Pharmacists: Put yourself out there, even if it may feel uncomfortable and scary at first! I got involved nationally with ASHP at the recommendation of a faculty mentor who has been involved for many years now. She told me that "if you never apply for the things you are interested in, you'll never get them at all." Despite me feeling intimidated, I am so grateful for the bravery I had to put myself out there and get involved. Reflect on your passions, your values, and capitalize on opportunities that best align with them!
