She is a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist. Currently, she serves as an assistant professor at the University of South Florida Taneja College of Pharmacy, where she maintains a clinical practice in pediatric nephrology and renal transplant at Tampa General Hospital. Facility:
The USF Taneja College of Pharmacy is an academic institution with a block curriculum emphasizing active learning, skills-based training, and interprofessional education. Tampa General Hospital is a large academic health system and Level I trauma center, serving as a major teaching hospital affiliated with the University of South Florida. The institution provides advanced pediatric specialty care, including kidney transplantation, performing approximately 10-25 pediatric kidney transplants annually.
Current Responsibilities:
I serve as an assistant professor at the USF Taneja College of Pharmacy. Academically, I teach both didactic and skills-based courses, coordinate the pediatric pharmacotherapy elective, and act as a preceptor for both APPE and residency learners. I also co-lead the teaching certificate program and mentor students in research. In my clinical role, I optimize medication therapy for pediatric nephrology and transplant patients, provide pre- and post-transplant education, and collaborate on protocol and order set development.
Recent Significant Projects:
I recently led the creation and implementation of a transplant medication education game designed for adolescent kidney transplant recipients. This project was developed in collaboration with pharmacy students and incorporates gamification strategies to improve medication knowledge, engagement, and self-management.
Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
My advice is to continually seek growth and push yourself outside of your comfort zone. Even if you don’t feel entirely ready for a new challenge, surround yourself with people who support you and elevate you to that next level.
Involvement with ASHP:
I currently serve on the ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Advisory Group on Pediatrics. I also contribute to professional development activities and pediatric content initiatives. Previously, I served in multiple leadership roles within the New Practitioners Forum, including chair, workgroup lead, and advisory group member.
Reason for ASHP involvement:
I got involved in ASHP to connect with mentors, grow my professional network, and contribute to national initiatives that support early-career growth and pediatric practice. ASHP offered leadership and collaboration opportunities early on, which helped shape my career path.
Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues:
I would describe ASHP as a professional home that provides resources for clinical advancement, leadership development, and networking across perse practice settings. Whether you’re looking for continuing education, practice tools, or national committee involvement, ASHP creates opportunities to strengthen your practice and grow as a clinician.
Value of ASHP for the Profession:
ASHP promotes the profession by supporting practice growth and emphasizing pharmacists' roles as vital members of the healthcare team. The organization sets standards for care, credentialing, and education that raise pharmacy practice across the country and enhance patient outcomes.
