Current Responsibilities:
Moore is the hematology/oncology clinical pharmacy manager at Atrium Health Levine Cancer and oversees the clinical pharmacy program in this area. He also maintains a clinical practice, for which he specializes in hematology.
Recent Significant Projects:
A major clinical initiative to highlight that I have participated in is the advancement of pretreatment dihydropyridine dehydrogenase (DPYD) pharmacogenomic testing for cancer patients receiving fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy at my cancer center. This has been an initiative that has advanced medication safety, improved access to pharmacogenomic testing for patients, and elevated the role of the pharmacist through improvements in patient outcomes. My colleagues and I at my institution were recognized by ASHP with a Best Practice Award in 2023 for our efforts.
Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
Hematology/Oncology is such a rewarding, yet challenging, area to practice. My advice for someone entering this area and also wanting to be involved professionally: there are so many professional opportunities open to them. Be open to a persity of professional experiences. You never know what will click with you until you try. It can be hard to have the foresight but know that one opportunity can lead to the next.
Involvement with ASHP:
My current involvement in ASHP includes serving on the Council for Education and Workforce Development and the Section Advisory Group on Emerging Sciences. For the council, I am the incoming Chair for the 2026-2027 term. For the section advisory group, I am the current Chair for the 2025-2026 term. Previously, I have served as the Hematology/Oncology Roundtable Discussion Leader at the Midyear for several years.
Reason for ASHP involvement:
Once I completed residency and got my first job, I was looking to get more involved at the state level and eventually a national level. My first job out of residency was in Missouri, and my director of pharmacy, who became one of my early career mentors encouraged me to join the Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacy (MSHP) and I become involved through writing a couple newsletter articles and presenting continuing education at some of their conferences. Once I moved to North Carolina and got settled into things at Atrium Health Levine Cancer, I really wanted to start getting more involved professionally and nationally. While I had been a member of ASHP, I had not yet served on any committees. I was really interested in the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists and joined the Emerging Sciences Section Advisory Group in 2018 as it aligned with much of therapeutic advancements in oncology.
Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues:
ASHP was the first national level professional organization for which I joined a committee. My activity in ASHP has opened so many doors for me professionally and still continues to do so to this day. Probably the most valuable and impactful aspect of being involved with ASHP has been for me has been the connections I have made. It really has been a great place to build professional friendships, meet other pharmacists from all around the country, and particularly for collaborating with pharmacists across different specialties and practice areas.
Value of ASHP for the Profession:
ASHP supports health-system pharmacy in so many different ways through professional development opportunities, education, advocacy, and beyond.
