Folashade Alabi
Alabi is a licensed Pharmacist with over 12 years of experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy and over 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a medical writer. She has served as both an inpatient clinical pharmacist and an operations and safety manager, where she played a key role in leading initiatives focused on improving patient and employee safety. Alabi earned her Master of Pharmacy degree from the University of Sunderland in England. In 2020, she joined the ASHP Emerging Sciences Section Advisory Group and has remained an active member, contributing to the advancement of innovative practices in pharmacy.

Current Responsibilities:
In my role, I lead medical communications and scientific education initiatives to ensure accurate and strategic dissemination of medical information. I conduct and oversee literature searches to support medical strategy and the creation of high-quality scientific content. I also manage multiple cross-functional projects, ensuring that all deliverables align with regulatory, compliance, and industry standards.
Recent Significant Projects:
I spearheaded the development of scientific content for multiple drug launches, ensuring full compliance with FDA and regulatory requirements. During this time, I successfully managed over seven concurrent projects, driving strategic execution and cross-functional alignment across multiple teams. My leadership and problem-solving throughout major product launches were recognized with the RISE Award, highlighting the positive impact of this work on both the organization and the advancement of patient care.
Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
My advice to someone new to medical communications is to stay curious, proactive, and adaptable. Take the time to truly understand the science behind the products you’re supporting, and don’t be afraid to ask questions as clarity is critical in this field. Building strong cross-functional relationships is also key; collaboration with regulatory, legal, and clinical teams ensures that your work is both scientifically accurate and aligned with compliance standards. Most importantly, remember that everything you do ultimately impacts patient care, so approach each project with purpose and integrity.
Involvement with ASHP:
I am a member of the Emerging Sciences Section of Clinical Scientist and Specialists. I have been part of the committee since 2020. I have served as the secretary, vice chair, chair. Within the committee, I have led some successful project notably the publication of a commentary in the AJHP.

I would describe the value of ASHP to a peer or colleague as an invaluable resource for professional growth, networking, and staying updated on the latest in healthcare and pharmacy practice. ASHP offers access to a wealth of educational content, clinical resources, and cutting-edge research that are essential for advancing in the field. Additionally, being part of ASHP connects me with a perse network of professionals, allowing for collaboration and the exchange of ideas that drive innovation and improve patient care.
