Facility:
BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) is a global medical technology company committed to advancing medication safety and improving patient outcomes. Within BD, Medical Affairs drives evidence-based strategies, regulatory compliance, and digital innovation to support clinicians and health systems worldwide. The team collaborates across therapeutic areas to optimize medication management, enhance clinical workflows, and ensure safe, effective use of BD’s devices and solutions.

Current Responsibilities:
I serve as Associate Director, Medical Affairs, Strategy, Digital & Regulatory Operations at BD. My work focuses on advancing medication‑use safety through evidence generation, clinical workflow optimization, and digital solutions that support safe, effective use of BD technologies across health systems. I also serve as the residency program coordinator for the PGY2 Medication‑Use Safety and Policy (MUSP) program jointly offered by BD and City of Hope, where I help shape curriculum, mentor residents, and align industry–health‑system projects. In addition, I precept APPE students from seven academic institutions, providing experiences in medication safety, informatics, and pharmacy operations.

Recent Significant Projects:
Recently, I led a cross-functional initiative to advance gravimetric compounding innovation in pharmacy practice. By bringing together industry experts, patient safety advocates, and professional organization members, we developed and disseminated guiding practices that significantly improved compounding medication preparation accuracy and patient safety. This project not only accelerated new product development and evidence generation but also fostered greater adoption of technology-driven solutions across the profession, ultimately enhancing patient care.

Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
If you’re just starting out, my biggest advice is to actively leverage your personal connections. They can open doors and provide insights you won’t find in textbooks. Focus on filling gaps or areas of greatest need within your organization or the profession; that’s where you’ll make the most impact. Work hard at all times, because consistency builds trust and credibility. Follow your passion projects, even if they seem small at first—they often lead to amazing career opportunities. And most importantly, don’t be afraid to try something new; innovation and growth happen when you step outside your comfort zone.

Involvement with ASHP:
I am currently serving as a first-year member of the Operations and Automation SAG. Prior to this, I spent four years with the Clinical Data Standards and Analytics group.

Reason for ASHP involvement:
I became involved in ASHP because of my overwhelming passion to give back to the profession and support future and up-and-coming pharmacists. I truly believe that if we aren’t willing to invest in the growth of our profession, it will never advance. Some of my closest professional connections were formed through SOPIT, and those relationships have been invaluable. ASHP also gives me the opportunity to stay closely connected to pharmacy practice while contributing to meaningful initiatives that shape the future of healthcare.

Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues:
I would describe ASHP as an incredible resource hub that offers tools and information you rarely find elsewhere. It’s a great forum for sharing knowledge and learning from others, which helps keep you at the forefront of pharmacy practice. Beyond that, ASHP is an outstanding networking platform. It is a great place to connect you with peers, thought leaders, and innovators who can help you grow professionally and make a real impact.

Value of ASHP for the Profession:
I would describe ASHP as a guiding force for pharmacy practice, setting standards and driving innovation across the profession. It’s one of the best organizations at combining technology with medication safety, ensuring that advancements truly benefit patients. ASHP also provides an open forum for candid conversations, where professionals can share challenges, exchange ideas, and collaborate on solutions that shape the future of pharmacy.
