Northeast Ohio Medical University
Name of SSHP: Northeast Ohio Medical University Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists
SSHP Membership Size: 100
Featured Program: Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI) Project

Description of the Program:
The event focused on two PAI categories (patient-centered care and pharmacist role, education, and training). A pharmacist shared personal examples of how they incorporate PAI into their practice and professional development. The event was interactive and included small group discussions. Printed PAI statements and worksheets were provided to students to encourage reflection and planning. Approximately 28 individuals attended the event.
Resources:
The SSHP utilized ASHP's About PAI 2030 webpage. A professor who has strong ASHP, state affiliate, and pharmacy involvement was asked to speak at the event. As the president-elect of OSHP, Dr. Marchiano brought valuable insights and experiences that aligned with the SSHP.
Promotion of Event:
The SSHP developed promotional flyers, the SSHP P1 representative shared the event to their P1 class, and all SSHP officers were asked to help promote the event.
Advice for Other SSHPs:
Structure the event as interactive rather than lecture-based, such as incorporating small-group discussions and personal reflection activities. Provide printed materials, like PAI statements or worksheets, to help guide conversation and give attendees something to take away. Keep the session focused and well-organized with clear objectives and allow time for discussion so participants can apply concepts to their own professional development.
Additional Information:
One key takeaway from the event is the value of making events both practical and interactive. Providing opportunities for attendees to reflect, discuss, and apply concepts, rather than just listening, can greatly increase engagement. Also, making connections with faculty or professionals who are already supportive of student organizations can make planning easier. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
