Why I do what I do
I continue to be a pharmacy technician because I believe that this is what I was meant to do. This is the most fulfilled I have ever been in a job/career. I love to teach and train other technicians and see their passion for helping patients grow as well. Being a pharmacy technician has more opportunities than we realize.
Latest Accomplishment
I completed a project last month to standardize the way we log environmental monitoring and cleaning activities for regulatory compliance at our TN and GA facilities. I am now being asked to explore implementation across our whole division and potentially nationwide.
Most Memorable Experience as a Pharmacy Technician
A patient came in to the independent pharmacy where I worked to fill a prescription. This patient came to the counter to talk to the pharmacist and I was also right there. He proceeded to show us what he was getting a prescription for by sliding the back of his pants down several inches so we could get a good look at what was ailing him. He explained that he wanted us to see it so we could tell him whether or not the doctor prescribed the right thing to help him. Unfortunately, I will never forget that experience although I definitely laugh about it now.
Why I Became Certified
I already had a bachelor's degree in mass communication but after 8 and a half years, it was not fulfilling for me. I decided to go back to school and found myself taking classes to become a pharmacy technician. I loved my classes and finally felt as though I found my niche. I made it my goal to earnevery certificate I could moving forward and I continue to achieve that goal with every new certification that is made available. I love learning new things and challenging myself in this way.
My Passion Outside of Work
I love crafting and utilizing my creativity to improve or create things. After working a more technical job, it's very therapeutic for me to have a creative outlet. I'm also a big reader and enjoy getting lost in a good book.
Latest Book Read
Just reread all of the Harry Potter books as my nieces are growing to love them too.
