Why I do what I do
As a pharmacy technician for nearly 19 years, I have had opportunities to experience many areas of practice in pharmacy. My job history includes retail, inpatient, long term care, and nuclear pharmacy. With all these experiences, my knowledge and love of pharmacy has grown. As the inventory specialist at my location, I have the unique task of working both retail and inpatient pharmacies. A huge task in this role is working to resolve backorder issues and navigating service disruptions due to weather events. Pharmacy technicians are instrumental in all areas of pharmacy practice and influence the final results for the patients we serve. Pharmacy technician roles have advanced throughout the years and I am an advocate for a national standardization.
Latest Accomplishment
I was honored to be a part of the ASHP Policy Week as the technician member for the Council on Pharmacy Practice. This experience was rewarding for me to be able to see the work that is done in Washington D.C. to address legislative bills that will affect us all.
Most Memorable Experience as a Pharmacy Technician
Many years back, I had the honor of being asked to be on a board for CHI that was working to add telepharmacy into critical access hospitals. Having grown up in rural North Dakota, I knew how important this option was to have available to the communities they served.
Why I Became Certified
I became certified because in the state of North Dakota it is a requirement to practice as a pharmacy technician. I continue to add PTCB credentials because I feel that they show how dedicated I am to the search of knowledge and the practice of pharmacy. I am a believer that we should never stop learning or advocating for our profession. I have obtained CSPT certification along with 6 of the certificates that PTCB offers. I am currently working on my 7th.
My Passion Outside of Work or Hobbies
I enjoy spending time with family and friends and our dog. We have also opened our home and our hearts to several foster children. I am truly humbled by this opportunity that we have taken on and I am inspired by every child we have had in our home.
I am an active advocate for pharmacy technicians outside of work as well. I am honored to be a part of several local and national level boards and committees.
