Charlotte Hook is the coordinator of pharmacy technician education and development at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, Massachusetts, where she has been a contributing team member since 2018. With over 18 years of experience across various pharmacy settings, Hook has established herself as a leader dedicated to advancing pharmacy technician practice.

Hook defines her practice area interests as sterile/non-sterile compounding and pharmacy technician education. Before assuming her current role, Hook held positions such as compounding pharmacy technician supervisor, pharmacy operations manager, and sterile compounding pharmacy technician. Her responsibilities included ensuring compliance, drafting policies and procedures, and staff training and development — all of which highlight her experience in pharmacy operations.

Hook earned her BS in biology from the University of Central Lancashire and is currently pursuing a Master of Health Administration at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. Her credentials include certifications in technician product verification, compounding sterile preparations, compounding non-sterile preparations, regulatory compliance, hazardous drug handling, and controlled substance diversion prevention from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. As an instructor for the Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program at Quincy College in Quincy, Massachusetts, Hook actively contributes to expanding the pharmacy technician workforce.

Beyond her roles at MGH and Quincy College, Hook has made contributions to the field through her involvement in professional organizations. She serves as the inaugural Pharmacy Technician Director on the executive board of the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP), where she previously served as co-chair on the MSHP Pharmacy Technician Committee and has also developed and delivered continuing education programs in non-sterile and sterile compounding topics.

Hook is an advocate for pharmacy technician education and advancement, aiming to elevate the pharmacy technician profession on a national level. Since joining ASHP in 2017, she has been an active participant in the Pharmacy Technician Forum and has held leadership roles including vice chair and chair of the forum’s education steering committee. Throughout her tenure she has supported the development of educational resources such as webinars and toolkits, intended to empower pharmacy technicians to excel in their careers.

Hook is passionate about highlighting the achievements of pharmacy technicians and believes that driving meaningful change in the pharmacy technician profession is facilitated by active participation. Her dedication to advancing pharmacy technician practice through professional organization involvement, pharmacy technician education and advocacy underscores her commitment to excellence in healthcare.
