Why I do what I do:
I really love pharmacy operations and all things that it encompasses! I appreciate that each day is different and brings forth new challenges and undertakings.
Latest Accomplishment:
- I had a unique opportunity to be involved in a year-long international, interdisciplinary study observing residual hazardous medications on surfaces in pharmacy and patient care areas. We are currently working on getting our first paper published!
- I was nominated and selected to win the 2021 HOPA Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Technician Award.
- I am a member of the ASHP’s Membership Outreach and eCommunications Advisory Group (MOeC) and I was also appointed to the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) Board of Directors in 2020.
Most Memorable Experience as a Pharmacy Technician:
I presented a Clinical Pearl at the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association’s Practice Management Meeting in 2019. Needless to say I was quite terrified because I was the only technician at the conference and I was presenting to a large audience full of very intelligent pharmacists.
Why I Became Certified?
Before it became mandatory at my health system, I became certified to make sure I was the best candidate for my (then) and future positions. It seemed like an easy thing that I could do on my end to show my dedication.
My Passion Outside of Work or Hobbies:
Cooking, baking, and then eating what I make š
Latest Book Read:
Currently re-reading the Harry Potter series! I am half-way through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Advice to Up-and-Coming Technicians:
Be proactive and involve yourself as much as you can! My career has become even more fulfilling by involving myself more and making new connections within the pharmacy community.
