When did you first join ASHP?
I first joined ASHP as a first year student pharmacist.
What is your current involvement with the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum (i.e. advisory group or executive committee appointment)?
I currently serve as the Chair of the Pharmacy Student Forum Career and Leadership Development Advisory Group.
What is your favorite part of your ASHP student membership? What has been most beneficial about being a student member of ASHP?
My favorite part of being an ASHP member is the wide array of opportunities ASHP has provided for me to be able to network with other students and pharmacists from across the country. It has been extremely inspiring and powerful to work to with other students and ASHP staff to come up with new and innovative ideas that benefit the entire ASHP community. I have grown both personally and professionally through my involvement as a member and a leader within the organization, and have felt supported by my peers and mentors every step of the way.
What is your favorite memory from an ASHP event, project, or program?
My favorite memory from an ASHP event was working with students to create a podcast on the ASHP APPE. It was amazing to see 5-10 students working together to design a script, come up with questions, and ultimately host a successful podcast. I enjoyed getting to know the individuals involved as well as working with other ASHP Student Advisory Groups within the larger organization.
What advice do you have for pharmacy students seeking to become involved in national organizations?
My best piece of advice for students looking to get more involved nationally is to just go for it! National involvement can be intimidating; however it is 100% worth it. I would advise to start by asking questions and researching potential opportunities, and if you see something you are interested in, apply! I have always found it extremely helpful to reach out to the students who have previously held leadership positions in order to learn more information.
