When did you first join ASHP?

I initially joined ASHP as a P1 in 2019. It felt like a safe space to build on my professional skill set, stay informed on updates to the profession, and connect with other students. During the summer of 2021, I had the chance to participate in a virtual ASHP Headquarters visit. That experience really highlighted how much of an impact the organization has on shaping the scope of our practice, and this motivated me to get further involved!

What is your current involvement with the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum (i.e. advisory group or executive committee appointment)?

I currently serve on the ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum as an advisory group member. I’m an active part of the Advancement of Professional Practice Advisory Group where I collaborate with other students to evaluate student-led resources, initiatives, and programs. We look forward to collaborating with other work-groups, and expanding on current resources available.

What is your favorite part of your ASHP student membership? What has been most beneficial about being a student member of ASHP?

My favorite part about being a student member of ASHP is the wide range of resources they have available for students. There are a countless number of podcasts where students can keep up with advocacy, hot topics, or even updates in therapies. They also have tons of resources available for  students preparing to transition to the next phase of their pharmacy journey! From the ‘match day resources’ to the ‘residency directory’, I feel extremely supported by ASHP.

What is your favorite memory from an ASHP event, project, or program?

My favorite ASHP memory is attending Midyear! Even when it was virtual, I had an amazing time presenting my research, connecting with residency programs, and attending virtual workshops. I am ecstatic to attend Midyear in person this year! I can’t wait to meet everyone face-to-face. 

What advice do you have for pharmacy students seeking to become involved in national organizations?

My advice for students looking to become involved in national organizations is do not be afraid to put yourself out there! It’s such an amazing chance to build your network and grow as a professional. I’ve made many strong connections within my College of Pharmacy, but the relationships I’ve been able to build with other students from across the nation have helped me grow even more! We often hear that pharmacy is a small world. National engagement allows us to meet our future collogues and establish relationships that we’ll carry with us well into the future. In addition to expanding your network, engaging with a national organization also helps you develop transferable skills in project management, communication, and efficiency. It gives you plenty of experiences useful for any career field you decide to continue in.
