Jordan L. Wulz

Jordan's Story

Dr. Wulz earned his Pharm.D. from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2015 and his Master of Public Health degree from Samford University in 2017. After completing his Pharm.D., Dr. Wulz spent two years in an ASHP-accredited post-graduate residency program specializing in ambulatory care and public health with Samford University and the Jefferson County Department of Public Health. Thereafter, Dr. Wulz was hired as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Concordia University Wisconsin, School of Pharmacy (CUWSOP) specializing in pain management. Currently he teaches pain management within the Pharmacotherapy sequence, and coordinates an Applied Patient Care course in the third professional year of pharmacy school. He also practices at Ascension Wisconsin in an outpatient pain management clinic.

Dr. Wulz is currently serving in the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners as a member of the Pain Management and Palliative Care Section Advisory Group. In previous years he has served on the New Practitioner's Forum Advisory Group on Practice Advancement and Advocacy. He also participates as a CV reviewer for ASHP, and is a member of the state-affiliated chapter, the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin serving on the Ambulatory Care Advisory Board.

Facility

Ascension Wisconsin’s Center for Pain Management provides pain management services throughout the metropolitan Milwaukee area with a focus on multimodal treatment including physical rehabilitation, interventional analgesia, medication management, and self-management education. Dr. Wulz works closely with a number of health care providers in the clinic including a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, an anesthesiologist, a physician assistant, and a pain psychologist, to provide optimal care to patients with chronic pain.

Recent Significant Projects

Dr. Wulz is in the process of completing ASHP Foundation's Advanced Pain Management and Palliative Care Traineeship. As a result of this program, he has developed a Pain Medication and Treatment Expectations class to incorporate into the Center for Pain Management's 8-week self-management sessions that are currently focused on cognitive behavioral therapy and coping skills. Additionally, Dr. Wulz continues to provide comprehensive medication management services for patients with complex medication regimens, within a shared visit model with the pain management physician.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

"I became involved in ASHP as a student when I first started to look into the many residency opportunities and various career paths for pharmacists. During my residency I went to ASHP Midyear meeting for the first time to present on my residency project and I remember a distinct energy and contagious excitement for the advancement of the pharmacy profession. This was something I really resonated with and I knew I wanted to be a part of this organization."

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

"Never stop learning. Pain management has continuously evolved over the years, making it absolutely necessary to stay up to date with new standards of care. Additionally, there are very few hard and fast rules in this field. Pharmacists working in pain management need to strike a balance between appropriate prescribing and patient advocacy."
