Sarah’s Story

In 2012, Dr. Payne received her Masters’ of Science degree in Graduate Pharmaceutical Sciences and Doctor of Pharmacy degree concurrently from The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Norman Regional Health System in Norman, Oklahoma in 2013 and her PGY2 Specialized Residency in Ambulatory Care at The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. Dr. Payne is a member of the Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Compensation and Practice Sustainability for the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners. She is also part of the New Practitioners Forum. She serves as a mentor through ASHP Connect and as a reviewer for the ASHP CV Review Program.

Facility

Dr. Payne is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy at the University of North Texas System College of Pharmacy. Located in the heart of Fort Worth’s Cultural District, UNTSCP is the only College of Pharmacy located on a health sciences center campus in Texas. Along with the other faculty, Dr. Payne educates and trains students to be the team of choice for education, discovery, and health care. She works as an ambulatory care clinical pharmacy specialist at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center Patient Care Center and Eagle Ranch clinics. Through a collaborative practice agreement with clinic providers she is able to initiate and modify medication regimens for various chronic conditions including diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, obesity, and heart failure.

In doing so, effective working relationships can be established with the patients, making them more likely to understand and incorporate your recommendations.”

Involvement in ASHP

“I joined ASHP as a pharmacy student during my second year of school to learn more about clinical pharmacy and residency programs. I have maintained my membership through my residency training and have become more involved in ASHP since completing residency so I may help advance the practice of clinical pharmacy.”
