Her Story

Dr. Zuo completed her PharmD degree at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 2014. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at UW Medicine/University of Washington and PGY2 in Ambulatory Care at the University of Arizona. She became board-certified in Ambulatory Care (BCACP) in 2016. After residency, she returned to UW Medicine’s Harborview Medical Center as an ambulatory care pharmacist covering primary and specialty clinics including family and internal medicine, geriatrics, hepatology, nephrology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and dermatology. She currently practices at UW Woodinville Neighborhood Clinic, a primary care clinic of UW Medicine.

Facility

UW Medicine is a teaching health system affiliated with the University of Washington, serving a 5-state region including Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho. Primary care at UW Medicine consists of over 30 clinics at UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, the UW Neighborhood Clinics, and Northwest Primary Care Clinics. Clinics offer general primary care for all adults and children, with select clinics focused in geriatrics, HIV, care for the homeless, and care for refugees and immigrants. The UW Neighborhood Clinic system is community-based, not-for-profit primary care network serving patients in 14 clinic locations throughout the greater Seattle area.

Recent Significant Projects

Dr. Zuo became the first full-time pharmacist to establish ambulatory care services in the UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinic system in September 2018. In addition to providing direct patient care and working with an interdisciplinary health care team, she collaborates with the UW Population Health team (MDs and pharmacists) to improve outcomes for patients with hypertension, diabetes, adherence gaps, and high-risk medications. She has most recently implemented an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring service in her clinic.

I recently became a volunteer for the SAG on Compensation & Practice Sustainability.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I have had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in several different practice settings and hope to share these experiences with other colleagues working to advance our profession and building their own services. I also hope to continue learning from others innovating pharmacy practice.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

Ambulatory care pharmacy is a broad field which can be challenging but also exciting. Be open to new opportunities and ideas. Most importantly, continue learning and remember that you can learn from your patients!

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP allows you to connect with other pharmacists outside of your own workplace and region to gain valuable insight into innovations and solutions.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP gives pharmacists a collective voice to advocate for the advancement of our profession.
