Benjamin Laliberte

Benjamin's Story

Dr. Laliberte is originally from Boston, Massachusetts where he completed his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2014 at MCPHS University (formerly Massachusetts College of Pharmacy). He then went on to a complete a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center followed by a PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 2016. Dr. Laliberte currently works as a Cardiology Clinical Pharmacist at Massachusetts General Hospital back in Boston. His areas of interest include heart failure, anticoagulation, and teaching.

Dr. Laliberte has been an active member of the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Educational Steering Committee since 2015. In this role he has worked on several Midyear Clinical Meeting proposal reviews and writing for SafeMedication.com.

Overview of Facility/Health System

Massachusetts General Hospital is a 1,000-bed, academic teaching hospital in Boston.  It is the largest hospital in New England, and the third oldest in the United States. Consistently ranked as one of the top hospitals in the nation by US News & World Report, Mass General conducts the largest hospital-based research program in the U.S. The Department of Pharmacy encompasses a staff of approximately 400 fulltime employees and trains a growing number of PGY1 and PGY2 Pharmacy Residents. 

Significant Projects

At Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Laliberte has been intimately involved with formalizing and enhancing preceptor development and educational initiatives. He is also currently finishing a research project on preventing hospital readmissions in patients with acute decompensated heart failure.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

"I became involved with ASHP as a pharmacy student after winning my school's Clinical Skills Competition. It became an excellent opportunity to attend Midyear, network with other members, and develop my leadership and communication skills."

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

"As a new practitioner out of residency, the best advice is to have strong mentors. This allows you to ask questions, grow professionally, and make good decisions. Of course, in the cardiology realm new studies are always being published. It's extremely important to maintain your competency and keep on top of the literature. Utilizing social media (e.g., twitter) and subscribing to cardiology journal email alerts is an excellent start!"
