Overview of Facility/Health System

Hartford Healthcare is a comprehensive health care network in Connecticut, which includes seven acute care hospitals, a behavioral health network, a large multispecialty physician group, a regional home care system, a variety of senior care services, and a large physical therapy and rehabilitation network. Collectively, the acute care hospitals are licensed for over 2400 beds and treat over 100,000 inpatients yearly. Approximately 500,000 patients are treated in the emergency departments each year.

Significant Projects

During her first few months in the system clinical manager role, Dr. Teevan worked extensively on COVID-19 related medication supply, substitutions, and treatment strategies. She has also been involved in formulary and order set review and standardization in preparation for onboarding an acute care hospital to the system's electronic health record. Dr. Teevan is currently leading an initiative to implement transitions of care pharmacy services across Hartford Healthcare. She also spends time on resident and student education across the system.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

Dr. Teevan currently serves as a member of the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners' Section Advisory Group on Pharmacy Practice Experiences Precepting. She is also the current Senior Board member for the Connecticut Society of Health-System Pharmacists.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I first became involved in ASHP as a student, where I learned about the opportunities it provided in patient care, education, and advocacy. As a resident, ASHP was invaluable as a resource for education, networking, and professional development. I continue to be involved in ASHP because the organization promotes best practices across the healthcare continuum, advocates for changes that advance the profession, and provides opportunities for networking and education on both the state and national levels.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP is the professional home for health-system pharmacists. ASHP connects students, residents, and pharmacists across the nation and supports pharmacists in providing top quality patient care.

What kind of advice would you provide for someone new to your specialty area?

Seek out and take advantage of opportunities to try new things and grow in your areas of interest. Identify mentors you'll be able to use as a resource throughout your career, and, in return, provide mentorship to students, residents, and colleagues. Most importantly, remembers that patients are at the center of everything we do in pharmacy.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP is a valuable resource that provides education, development and sharing of best practices, and advocacy for the profession and our patients.
