Jason’s Story

Jason Babby, Pharm.D., BCPS, is Drug Information Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator at The Mount Sinai Hospital. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. John’s University in Queens, New York and completed the PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington, New Jersey followed by a PGY2 Drug Information Specialty Residency at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Babby is an alumnus of the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy. He is board certified in pharmacotherapy and maintains the position of Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and Long Island University, Brooklyn, New York.

Dr. Babby has served on several ASHP committees including the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners’ Advisory Group for Medication Safety, the New Practitioner’s Forum Executive Committee, New Practitioner’s Forum Membership Advisory Group, and the New Practitioner’s Forum Public Affairs and Advocacy Advisory Group. Dr. Babby currently serves as a member of the Section Advisory Group on Pharmacy Practice Experiences. In addition to being a CV Reviewer, Dr. Babby has also volunteered as a poster mentor for students and residents at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meetings.

Facility

Founded in 1852, The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,171-bed, tertiary-care teaching facility acclaimed internationally for excellence in clinical care. Significant Projects

In addition to responding to drug information questions and handling drug shortages, Dr. Babby is involved in various readmission initiatives. The High Risk Bundle was recently rolled out and aimed to ensure that all patients at high/very high risk for readmission are provided evidence-based, high quality care during and after their hospitalization. By providing the interventions within this care bundle, the hospital is aiming to reduce the likelihood of patients being readmitted. Dr. Babby also collaborates with the Department of Population Health Science & Policy in conducting research to improve the use of medications. The latest research projects include “Restricting intravenous acetaminophen use: effectiveness of an institutional approach” and “A basic approach to reduce inappropriate dosing of high risk drugs in elderly patients.”

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

“Embrace challenges and don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. We are continuously learning everyday—learn from your mentors and your colleagues. Lastly, be a mentor to others and share your knowledge.”
