Kim’s Story

Kim Kelly, Pharm.D., BCPS, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from UNC School of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 residency in Pharmacy Practice - Acute Care track at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Currently, Dr. Kelly is Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy practice at Campbell University. Her practice site is Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington, NC where she serves as the PGY1 residency program director as well as the Internal Medicine Clinical Specialist. She is currently a member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Small and Rural Hospitals.

Overview of Facility/Health System

Central Harnett Hospital is a small, rural teaching hospital associated with Harnett Health system. The hospital system is affiliated with Campbell University and has a traditional rotating internship, internal medicine, and family medicine physician residencies. In addition, the health system has two PGY1 pharmacy residents.

Significant Projects

“I have been greatly involved in one of my resident's projects in which he surveyed rural hospital pharmacy directors to determine the types of clinical services offered in small, rural hospitals in NC. In addition, we sought to describe barriers to growth and expansion in the pharmacy departments in these communities.”

Initial Involvement in ASHP

“I wanted to make a contribution, no matter how small, to a profession and the organization that I love being a part of.”

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

“Do not worry too much about your career path. If you know what you are interested in, evaluate opportunities as they come. You might find yourself doing something completely different than you thought, and loving every minute!”
