Liz Jochum

Her Story

Liz Jochum, Pharm.D., BCPS, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 2011, completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is board certified in Pharmacotherapy.

Overview of Facility/Health System

Dr. Jochum is currently the Clinical Pharmacy Manager and new Residency Program Director at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital located in Geneva, Illinois, about 35 miles west of Chicago. Part of an ever-growing integrated academic health system, Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital is one of ten hospitals in Northwestern Medicine and is a Magnet®-designated 159-bed acute-care facility with a medical staff of nearly 600 physicians from 80 medical specialties providing comprehensive medical care.

Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report and is recognized as an IBM Watson Health Top 100 Hospital. This community teaching hospital offers services for general medicine, cardiology, surgery, maternity, critical care, oncology, and emergency medicine. Delnor is also a designated primary stroke center, has outpatient oncology and family practice clinics on campus, and hosts a family medicine residency program. Pharmacy services provide IPPE and APPE rotations annually for pharmacy students from several local colleges of pharmacy.

Significant Projects

During the past year, Dr. Jochum has been developing a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital. The first residents will start summer of 2020.

Initial Involvement in ASHP

Dr. Jochum is currently a member of ASHP’s Small and Rural Hospitals SAG. She also serves as a Curriculum Vitae Reviewer for ASHP’s CV Review Program.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

Dr. Jochum became involved in ASHP to network, utilize available resources and best practices, and give back to the profession by contributing to the organization.

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

Dr. Jochum recommends using your resources and finding yourself a good mentor! When she first took the leap from staff clinical pharmacist to a Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator, she used ASHP’s mentoring program to find someone to reach out to during her transition.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP offers so many resources and networking opportunities within the organization. Most recently, Dr. Jochum has been utilizing the toolkits for Starting a Residency and Preceptor Development for her staff. She has found these resources to be invaluable when developing a new residency program.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP offers a centralized and collective voice for the health-system pharmacy professionals and contributes to the body of knowledge available for its members. Through meetings and online forums, it also offers numerous networking opportunities.
