Julie Pawola is a clinical informatics pharmacist at UW Health and a clinical assistant professor at University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Pharmacy. She supports all elements of the medication use process within the electronic medical record (EMR) focusing on the inpatient aspect. She works on various multidisciplinary and pharmacy-specific projects to ensure safe medication practices throughout UW Health. Pawola is actively engaged in educating future pharmacists, serving as the coordinator of the postgraduate year 2 informatics residency, a resident preceptor, and advisor. She is a lecturer for the Introduction to Pharmacy Information course for first-year pharmacy students at the UW School of Pharmacy.

Pawola graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy and completed a postgraduate year 1 pharmacy residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Additionally, she has obtained various vendor-specific certifications that include pharmacy, oncology, inpatient build, and clinical decision support. Throughout her career, she has worked on EMR optimization to streamline and expand the roles of health care professionals. Her professional interests include pharmacy practice advancement, medication safety, and clinical decision support. Her goals include promoting informatics education to pharmacy students and incorporating it into residency training.

Pawola is an active member of ASHP, currently serving in the ASHP Section on Informatics and Technology (SOPIT) as a member of the Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Professional Development. She previously served SOPIT as a member, vice-chair and chair for the SAG on Professional Development and as a member, vicechair and two-time chair on the education steering committee. She has had various roles in ASHP, including serving on the SOPIT Committee on Nominations, ASHP Joint Section and Forum Leadership Development Panel, the ASHP Pharmacy Forecast Survey Panel and as an ASHP CV reviewer and a field tester for the ASHP Pharmacy Sterile Compounding and Informatics Certification Program. Pawola collaborated with her SOPIT colleagues on an AJHP article, various webinars, podcasts, and projects. Beyond her association with ASHP, Pawola is actively involved in the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin and is currently serving as the vice chair of the Educational Programming Advisory Committee. In this role, Pawola assists in overseeing the education provided to pharmacy professionals across the state. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, and traveling.
