Cher Enderby

About my pharmacy practice journey, education, and key accomplishments:

Dr. Cher Enderby is the Coordinator of Education and Staff Development at Mayo Clinic in Florida. She serves as the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, Pharmacy Student Program Director, and the Mayo Clinic Technician Program Assistant Program Director. Dr. Enderby received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida, then completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Florida Hospital in Orlando. For several years, she practiced as a Transplant Pharmacist until 2016 when she assumed her current role. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist, and an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy through the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Enderby has completed research, presented posters, and published peer-reviewed articles. She has been an active member of the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists serving on several councils and has held leadership positions at the local level including President of the Northeast Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 2014. Dr. Enderby has been involved with the ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Section Advisory Group on Preceptor Skills Development and the ASHP Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Section Advisory Group on Pharmacy Practice Experiences Precepting where she recently served as Chair. She has served as a CV reviewer for students and residents, and a poster mentor at the Midyear Clinical Meeting.

Current employment, practice, and academic responsibilities:

Mayo Clinic in Florida is a comprehensive academic medical center with extensive outpatient facilities and a 304-bed hospital where advanced programs in education and research support the highest-quality patient care. Mayo Clinic has major campuses in Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida.

In her current role, she supports all educational efforts for the department, including training and competencies, and professional development of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, administrative assistants, pharmacy residents, student pharmacists, and pharmacy technician students. Dr. Enderby also serves as the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director, Coordinator for the PGY2 solid organ transplant program, Student Program Director, and the Mayo Clinic Technician Training Program Assistant Program Director.

Significant projects and accomplishments:

Dr. Enderby has been instrumental in the initiation of the PGY2 Solid Organ Transplant Residency Program at Mayo Clinic Florida and more recently the Mayo Clinic enterprise-wide Technician Training Program to the Florida campus.

Professional involvement with ASHP. What has been your ASHP journey?

Dr. Enderby became involved with ASHP during pharmacy school, starting off as a member of the student chapter and attended local meetings. She sought to make a difference and help move the profession forward. Dr. Enderby participated most recently on the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Advisory Group on Preceptor Skills Development and the Advisory Group on Pharmacy Practice Experiences Precepting. She has served as a poster mentor, CV reviewer, moderator, and presenter throughout the years. She is currently Director-at-Large of the inaugural Section of Pharmacy Educators Executive Committee.

Share your thoughts on ASHP’s value as a professional organization in contributing to the education of the pharmacy workforce? What do you think are some key success, resources, and opportunities?

ASHP provides a strong voice for the pharmacy profession. This is important as we continue to move our profession forward. Specifically relating to education of the pharmacy workforce, ASHP has made a conscientious effort in identifying this as an area of importance as evidenced of the development of the Section of Pharmacy Educators. There are several ASHP resources on the website that support pharmacy educators and learners such as the Preceptor Toolkit and Residency Directory. Webinars, podcasts, and conference programs have been developed to support pharmacy education.

What advice would you provide for individuals new to your area of expertise?

ASHP has been a valuable resource to me throughout my career. ASHP offers so many valuable resources, opportunities to network, and opportunities to move the profession forward. My advice to individuals new to the profession or new to an area of practice would be to utilize the available resources and be an active member of the organization.
