Bradley Bruce

Bradley’s Story

Dr. Bruce has experience in a variety of different healthcare settings including a midsize urban teaching hospital, large not-for-profit academic medical center, and a national for-profit integrated delivery network (IDN) system. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City and completed a pharmacy practice (PGY1) residency at Henry Ford Hospital and was a Corporate Pharmacy Leadership (PGY2) residency at HealthTrust in Nashville, TN.

Healthcare Site

Dr. Bruce is a Pharmacy Manager in Regulatory Compliance Support (Regs) at HCA Healthcare. Regs fundamental task is to reduce risk by supporting and educating hospital sites on proper drug coding and billing. In his role, Dr. Bruce manages the preservation of the corporate drug chargemaster, maintains a claims data dashboard (Tableau), and researches drug billing questions for HCA members. Dr. Bruce develops timely communications on market shifts in drug reimbursement and quarterly coding changes.

Recent Significant Projects

Dr. Bruce has gotten the opportunity to create and analyze claims data for the entire enterprise at HCA Healthcare where he has over 300 end users. Additionally, Dr. Bruce has been working with ASHP in the creation and delivery of revenue cycle workshops at both the Conference for Pharmacy Leadership and the Summer Meetings.

Involvement in ASHP

Currently, Dr. Bruce is a member of the ASHP Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Value, Quality, and Compliance. He has also presented nationally on revenue cycle management topics at ASHP Leadership and Midyear Clinical Meetings.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

Dr. Bruce first got involved when he was a student at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. The reason he continues to stay involved is the professional engagement, leadership development, and networking opportunities that ASHP provides. Dr. Bruce values the professional connections he has made during his pharmacy career with ASHP.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

Dr. Bruce wants to push young pharmacist to get involved and network with others in their specialty areas. Seek out advice from others in your area and don't be afraid to fail.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP can expand your current network and also provide up to date educational pharmacy content.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP helps push the profession of pharmacy to a new level of professionalism. ASHP has been very supportive in highlighting new areas of pharmacy (i.e. Revenue Cycle Management) to showcase the current and future states of pharmacy issues. This is valuable because it provides real-world insight into the current challenges happening in pharmacy and also connects the right people to solve these problems.
