Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area

I would highly recommend always being open to asking questions and receiving feedback. I have been able to learn so much from taking time to listen, explore, and dig deeper into my conversations with team members or projects with other leaders. This may seem intuitive but taking time to listen and ask questions allows you to learn so much more than you can imagine which has helped open my eyes to things I never expected to be so passionate about

I would also recommend finding a mentor outside of your area of work. Having someone to go to for career or project advice has always been beneficial to me by providing a new and welcomed prospective.

My last piece of advice is for pharmacy students. Believe in yourself! You have come so far and have worked so hard to get where you are at. If you are interested in residency, find someone that is currently in residency or recently graduated. Asking for guidance and feedback was beyond helpful in learning more about the various career paths pharmacy has to offer

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP is a professional organization that connects pharmacy professionals throughout the country. The opportunity to attend online educations, conferences and networking opportunities can provide mentors and colleagues for the rest of your career. The wide variety of resources provided by ASHP allow all disciplines within pharmacy not only an opportunity to grow and improve, but to share successes and creative ideas with others!

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP strives to improve medication use, enhance patient safety, and offers a variety of resources for practitioners and leaders. With members in a variety of different specialties, ASHP offers best practice information that is applicable for many practice sites. ASHP ensures content is current and relevant to the profession and allows members to collaborate and utilize this content by applying it directly to their practice setting.
